Eviction Night
Dee Valladares and Angela Murray spent the whole week working out how to vote Rick Devens out. On Thursday night, Devens voted one of them out first.
Barrett Pfeiffer's Head of Household had been one idea held with both hands: put all three Icons on the block at once and make the house finally do the thing it had been too scared to do for nine weeks. Yash Patel's "BB Comics" veto came and went without a save — the comical veto that wasn't — so Angela, Dee and Devens walked into eviction night all three still nominated, with the BB Block Buster the only door left.
"Reinvent the Wheel." A three-dimensional, double-sided wheel puzzle covered in tribal hieroglyphics, pieces mounted on rods running through both faces. Julie Chen Moonves laid out the only rule that mattered: "every puzzle piece has to fit on either one or both rods." Finish it, ring the bell, save yourself.
All three started slowly. Dee took the shortcut that looked smart — laying her pieces out flat on the floor to solve the picture before mounting anything — and for a stretch she looked like she had cracked it first. Devens just built on the rods, shouting out his kids to keep his hands moving, and while Dee was still admiring her floor he took a lead she never got back. He locked in and rang the bell: back-to-back Block Busters, and a third trip off the block on his own arm.
Which left the two Icons who had sworn secret Final 2s to each other sitting side by side, asking five newbies to choose between them.
Dee did the choosing for them. Her pitch was not loyalty, it was arithmetic — "Yash, Taylor, I'm with you guys 100 percent. Those three are so scared. They have no numbers." Keep her, and she goes after Barrett and Drew. Cut her, and the next time one of them sits beside her, they are the one who goes home. It was a case for keeping the more dangerous player, and the Ceasefire bought it, because Angela had gone the entire season without an HOH and without a veto. She was the smaller threat, so she was the cheaper vote.
Devens went first and did not pretend it was easy: "I reluctantly vote to evict my partner-in-crime… Angela." Taylor Brown and Yash followed him. Drew Campbell and Melody Morris stuck with Angela. 3–2.
Both women swung on the way to the door. Dee, not yet knowing she was safe: "I have nothing to lose. I will be public enemy number one. Use me to fight for your game." Angela, who did leave, went at the label that had followed her since the premiere: "Just because we're labeled icons, we're just like you. WE'RE NOT DIFFERENT!"
Angela Murray leaves on Day 66 — ninth evicted, tenth gone, and the second member of the BB28 jury behind LaTrice Verrett. No HOH, no veto, one Block Buster win, and a second Big Brother eviction to go with her BB26 run. She took her read straight to the jury house: "Dee really will protect them while she's out for vengeance on Barrett and Drew."
So the house reaches the final seven with the arithmetic inverted. The Ceasefire — Barrett, Drew, Melody, Taylor and Yash — is five. The Icons are two. For the first time all summer, the returnees are the ones counting.
And Julie left them a parting gift on the way out: next Thursday is a double eviction. Seven becomes five in a single night.
